KEYBOARDING/MS WORD PROCESSING I & II
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
This is a one trimester course for any student who would like to improve their typing skills. Every student will learn how to be efficient in their typing skills and typing speed through the use of Word 07 and typing games. The class will allow students to learn proper formatting of business documents, and gain word processing skills. This course will be useful for underclassman for high school and college career, as well as for any future career.

MONEY MANAGEMENT
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
Would you like to learn how to keep more of the money you earn? This one trimester course introduces students to necessary money management and saving techniques including: insurance, loans, credit cards, and taxes. Learning takes place in very real-world, hands-on situations including playing the game of Life! . Can receive college credit for this course through Minnesota State Community and Technical Colleges.

ACCOUNTING I
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
This course is taken for an entire year. A future career in accounting is not the only reason to take this course, knowledge of accounting is helpful for many careers and in your personal life. Knowledge of accounting will be learned through not only book work, but also through a business model (Fitness Junction), playing Accounting Monopoly and through computerized accounting. Can receive college credit for this course through Minnesota State Community and Technical Colleges.

BUSINESS LAW I
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
This class is one trimester long and focuses on legal issues through cases in business and personal settings. This class includes a field trip to the court house for a jury trial, and mock trial in the classroom where students play all trial participants – defendant, plaintiff, lawyers, and jury.

Would you like to earn money while earning credits and getting excellent work experience? This course goes along with Business Internship which places students on-the-job for two class periods a day. This course is available only to students who are enrolled in Business Internship (described below).

Pre-Requisite: Teacher permission only
Would you like to earn money while earning credits and getting excellent work experience? The Business Internship program places the student on-the-job for two periods of the school day. To apply for this program you must sign up for Business Seminar, and fill out an application form with the Business Internship Coordinator. Your final acceptance will depend upon job placement. This program takes three periods of the school day: 1 period for Business Seminar, 2 periods for Work Experience.

ACCOUNTING II

Pre-Requisite: Acct I
This one trimester course picks up where you left off in Accounting I. The course will follow through with the rest of the book covering special journals, depreciation, notes and interest, and dividends. This is a great opportunity for any student to brush up on accounting skills and enhance business knowledge.

Computers are used everywhere, therefore a knowledge in automated accounting is useful for any business profession. This one trimester class is open to anyone who has taken two trimesters of accounting.

In this one trimester course, students will learn advanced document formatting and word processing skills that will be helpful to them personally, in other high school courses, and in the work world. Students will also learn how to use Microsoft PowerPoint to make classroom and business presentations. Microsoft Office User Specialist certification is available for MS Word.

Let the computer do the math for you! This one trimester course will introduce students to the basics of spreadsheet use. Spreadsheets can be used in your personal life to help you keep track of your personal finances or can be used in business settings to help managers and owners figure out how to earn more money.

This one-trimester class will help students to design and develop publications by combining text, graphics, and design elements. This course allows students to show creativity, and use their imagination. It will include various projects including newsletters, posters, flyers, and more.

This one trimester class will teach students how to create web pages through HTML language and web page design software. The final project will be to work on a web page which can be published on the web. This course allows students to use their creativity, and imagination to create web pages.

INTRO TO MICROSOFT OFFICE APPLICATIONS

Fall trimester only
This is a one trimester course that can be taken by anyone, but you can receive college credit if you are a junior or senior and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. We cover the latest version of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint, and integration of those elements. Most colleges require this course no matter what major you are working toward, so this is a great opportunity for all students. This three trimester vocational course is designed to give students interested in pursuing a career in medicine an understanding of medical terminology. Students study medical terminology through the body systems with a medical view of anatomy and physiology. During 3rd trimester students will have the opportunity to job shadow and observe surgery. This course meets the second health requirement.

For those students interested in pursuing CNA/HHA certificates. CNA is a pre-requisite to all college nursing classes, contact the instructor or counselor. Classes will run 1st and 2nd trimester. This course meets the second health requirement. Class size will be limited to 10.

This is a woodworking course with emphasis on the “safe and proper” use of all power equipment, and the forming and separating processes involved in the development of wood projects. Required as a pre-requisite to Advanced Woods Technology.

When you have an idea and want to tell others about it, the most clear and concise method is to draw a picture. From new inventions to exotic home designs, learn methods of communicating your ideas on paper and using Computer Aided Drafting (CAD).

This course is an introduction to AC and DC power, Ohms law and balancing circuits, electric motors and semiconductor devices. Students will construct and test numerous electrical experiments. This course is vital for auto technicians and those interested in future energy demands in our world.

Pre-Requisite: Metal Processess Technology
Learn advanced operations on the lathe and mill such as cutting threads and boring internal diameters, and bolt patterns. You will be able to develop welding skills in vertical and overhead positions in all available processes and have time to use those skills in a project of your choice.

What is work and how is it accomplished? See where we have come from the pick and shovel days and where we want to go in the future. Study how hydraulics, pneumatics, power transmission are all used in manufacturing and getting work done. We will also build and test towers and bridges.

Pre-Requisite: Wood Processes Technology & Intro to Drafting
The building trade’s course is designed to give students experience in constructing a house of approximately 1,300 square feet in size. This course will give the students experience in finance, site development, masonry, carpentry and finishing trades. This is a year long course which will be held during periods 6 and 7 for the 2007-2008 school year. Advanced Woods is recommended but not required.

Pre-Requisite: Wood Processes Technology and Drafting
This course may be taken all year or any part of the year. This course is designed for students who are interested in developing increased skills in the areas of furniture construction and refinishing. Students will select an area of interest and develop a plan with the instructor in either the construction or refinishing area.

This course is designed for students who would like to gain knowledge in repairing and refinishing furniture and wood antiques. This will also be an excellent course for those of you who like to decorate and add personal touch to your favorite piece of woodwork or craft item.

AUTO MECHANICS I
Grades 10-12
This trimester course will cover the power plant and all its systems. Students will learn the proper use of tools and equipment to disassemble, measure for wear, and reassemble an automotive engine. It will include systems required for engine operation such as fuel, ignition, cooling, and lubrication.

Grades 10-12
This trimester course will cover the drive train consisting of clutches, automatic and manual transmissions, drive shafts, bearings, brakes and alignment. Auto I does not need to be taken before Auto II

Pre-Requisite: Electronics recommended.
This trimester course will cover starting, charging, electronic controls and diagnostics. Auto I or II does not need to be taken before Auto III.
